The Disco 82 mix was mixed from tapes rather than vinyl.

• Why mix from tape?? Well, if you make a mix from vinyl (with vinyl distortion and already degraded dynamics) and press it AGAIN on vinyl, the resulting quality is just terrible. So, taking the tapes and putting them on the 4 track TEAC (in the picture center above) I could use track 1 and 4 for one song already recorded on tape, and add the other song on tracks 2 and 3. Using a selfmade pitchcontrol with + and - buttons I was able to sync up the tracks.

• Well, how about remixing madonna??? That would be fun! :)
• I got the mp3 of a friend who has got the Madonna Album promo of
• the internet. The orginal length of that mp3 was 3:42. I took a loop
• of the track and started with the addition of a closed hihat.
• When I had this running I added a kraftwerk breakbeat to it and started to setup the track. I had to cut the whole track up into patterns (anybody with some tracker software experience should know that this is not the most fun part) :) Then I started to make the edits. The scratches in the break are mine, but not the best I've ever
• produced :) You also hear a part of Kraftwerks track: Tour de France :) The remix was completely made in Med Soundstudio, but because of the sample space of Med, I had to make it in two parts. This is when Cool Edit Pro comes in handy. I used this to tool to merge the two parts of the remix :) The whole project was made in 10 hours :)

Life vs Just An Illusion van Imagination

The second remix for Corne Klijns Disco Classics party on TROS radio 3FM is a combination of two discoclassics from the same year: 1982.

• I was playing ‘Just An Illusion’ by Imagination and thought that it could be mixed with 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ by Indeep. I‘ve got the 12” of 'Last Night...' and it features an acapella (vocals-only version) of this track. I played it on my turntable and matched the pitch with the Imagination song. Than I sampled the acapella at the right pitch in my Akai S 6000 sampler. The next thing to do was to time-stretch the Indeep vocals because the tempo must be the same as ‘Just An Illusion’.
• I used the Imagination song as the ‘vehicle’ for this mix, adding the vocals and some guitar and beatsamples from Indeep. I also filtered and sliced a vocal part of Imagination. As a final ingredient I added an extra rap after the "listen up to your local DJ" part. The raps of ‘I Know You Got Soul’ by Eric B. And Rakim (1987) sound very nice over the beats and bassline of ‘Just An Illusion’.

• For those who like to groove!!! It took me a long time to make this mix. I just could not get it right. It was just the thing that I wanted to remix Wild Cherry for a long, long time. Finding the right combi was also timeconsuming. But now I´m not dissappointed at all. Listen carefull and you will hear Barry Manilow´s Copacabana in it. Anyway...enjoy or not!

Adding loads of instruments to the original version plus some bits of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing".

• Ik heb als eerste de 12" van Kool Moe Dee opgenomen van vinyl. Deze duurt 3 min. 57 sec. (niks aan dus die 12") Ik had ook een album versie met wat aangedikte beats, maar die waren "te aanwezig". Making Waves op de originele snelheid van het nummer (89.4 PM) gezet en eerst het intro gemonteerd (de sampletjes) Marvin Gaye erbij gehaald en de "pump it up" is van The Kane Gang 12" - Don't look any further. De dame met "ooohyeah" en het "ooooooeehh" mannenkoortje komen uit Reason. Verder heb hier het hele nummer in verandert....qua volgorde alleen dus. Dit werd 1 wav file met alleen Kool Moe Dee dus. Nou, toen maar eens begonnen met de track helemaal na te bouwen in Reason. Uiteindelijk waren dit mijn tracks: 01. Tamboerijn (Dr.rex), 02. Roffelloop (Dr.rex), 03. Blazers 1 (NN-19), 04. Kool Moe Dee moest uiteindelijk zoveel mogelijk gefilterd worden omdat ik geen A capella had. Toen ik klaar was in Reason heb ik alles track voor track "gemixdowned" en vervolgens alle wav files in Cubase Sx geimporteerd. Hierin doe ik altijd de eindmix. Kool Moe Dee heb ik ook in Cubase op een track gezet en toe begon de eind mix met 20 tracks. Hier en daar een filter, delay, compressor, limiter, booster enz. Voor degene die thuis of in de auto een Subwoofer hebben.....er zit op elke 1e tel van elke beat een Subtone.....lekkkur.
